Job Description: Import Clerk - 4 on 4 off, 12 hour shifts, 12.00-Midnight
Folkestone
Perishable Airfreight and Roadfreight Knowledge and experience
£22,000 - £26,000 Negotiable on experience
Our client who are a freight forwarder based in Colnbrook have a vacancy for an Imports Clerk with in-time and perishable goods experience. This role is a demanding role with its primary focus airfreight and road-freight imports, mostly perishables, making it essential that you have experience and background in this.
Main duties and responsibilities of the Import Clerk
* Monitoring and printing of emails and pre-alerts;
* To sort, filter and distribute documentation, and create and maintain job files in an accurate and timely manner;
* Organise import clearances, and the correct documentation relating to the movement of cargo;
* Liaise with shippers, transporters, carriers, other agents and regulators (HMRC, Port & Plant Health and other regulatory bodies);
* A good knowledge of the UK integrated Tariff and in particular classification and duty calculation;
* The building up and transmission of Customs entries. An intimate knowledge is required on the completion of C88 entries;
* Experience on Customs Clearance Platforms like GEMS or SCS;
* Experience on the release and discharge of transit movements;
* Inter-shed and Inter-Airport transfers;
* Manual fall-back and T1 discharges;
* Facilitating and coordinating the sampling, inspection, and quarantine (by regulators) of freight, keeping track of the progress of such sampling, inspection, and quarantine, and keeping customers informed on the progress of such processes;
* Skill at updating, informing, guiding and mentoring shippers, customers, and other third parties on matters relating to documentation, procedure, and regulatory requirements;
* Tracking of shipments and keeping shippers and customers informed on the progress of freight movements and clearances;
* Dealing with any DUTY reclaims;
* Resolving HMRC Customs queries;
* Filing of reserves with carriers and transporters;
* Invoicing and charging files;
* Day to day general office duties e.g. answering of calls, filing, and general office administration;
Attributes of the Import Clerk
* The successful candidate will often be called upon to carry out the duties listed above on his/her own. He/she must therefore be a confident and efficient self-starter whom can perform unsupervised
* A high level of customer service
* Strong administration skills
* Ability to multitask and perform under pressure;
* Confidence to confront, resolve, correct, and/or clarify any issues, regulatory changes or problems
* In this role the successful candidate will work on a roster pattern of 4 days on, 4 days off, 12 hour shifts over the hours 12:00-00:00. Holiday entitlement is 22.5 days p/a.
